The Mayan Riviera hosts an incredible natural wonder

Did you know that our Resorts in the Riviera Maya are located facing the world’s second largest reef barrier?

The Mesoamerican Reef lies within the Caribbean Sea and touches the coasts of Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, and Honduras.

Starting at North from Isla Contoy at the Yucatan Peninsula, it continues down south along the coast of Belize and Guatemala, to end near the Bay Islands of  Honduras.

It’s the second largest reef in the world, just after the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. Covering an area of approximately 700 miles a home and food to over 65 different types of coral, 350 molluscs species and over 500 fish species.

90% of the species living in this area depend on the reef for survival; that’s why it’s very important to preserve and take good care of it.

If you’re planning to visit the Riviera Maya, please choose Catalonia Hotels & Resorts and enjoy snorkeling in the reef’s amazing waters, we are sure you won’t be disappointed.
