What are we doing in Catalonia Hotels & Resorts to\u00a0preserve the beauty of our beaches?<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

Let’s start by understanding the situation:<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Sargassum<\/em> or kelp\u00a0is a type of seaweed that causes no harm to the environment; It comes from an oceanic region known as the Sargasso Sea<\/strong>, which is a more than a\u00a0million square kilometers length algae\u00a0concentration located in the Atlantic Ocean<\/strong> near the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico. <\/span><\/p>\n

Every year, the ocean currents push\u00a0huge masses of algae straight to the Caribbean\u00a0sea.\u00a0Due to climate change caused by global warming, the phenomenon has increased in intensity and duration over the past few years.<\/span><\/p>\n

Tourists should not worry about this natural phenomenon; asides the bad aspect it gives to the beaches and sometimes an unpleasant odor\u00a0that\u00a0may disturb tourists, it has no negative effects on human health.<\/span><\/p>\n

Although we can not fight nature itself, we must adapt\u00a0in order to\u00a0coexist. As you may know, we were recently recognized\u00a0with the Blue Flag Certification<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0for the beaches of our Dominican Republic<\/a><\/strong> Resorts, as we are truly committed\u00a0to preserving the beaches clean.<\/span><\/p>\n

Every day, our staff makes a huge effort to collect sargassum from the beaches and bury it.\u00a0After two months, it will become sand, preserving the\u00a0extinction of the beach.<\/span><\/p>\n

Additionally, our Eco-Cat<\/strong> program promotes beach cleaning<\/a><\/strong> and encourages guests to join every week and participate collecting garbage and waste from the beach, cause taking care of the planet is everybody’s job.<\/span><\/p>\n
