Barcelona is the destination recommended by the prestigious newspaper The New York Times for Christmas, according to an article published in the american newspaper this weekend.

In Barcelona “the lights lining the avenues are more artistic, the parades better choreographed, the cakes more elaborate and the exertions more athletic”, states the article, entitled A Catalan Christmas. Its author, Lisa Abend, especially focuses on the arrival of the three Wise Men (the Reyes Magos) or the giant galets (traditional pasta shells in Catalonia eaten on Christmas Day) that decorate the city these days.

The cavalcade of the Magi is perhaps the most surprising tradition to the author of this article, but she finds more logical that the three Magi from the East will bring gifts to children as they did with Jesus Christ than “a jolly guy in the fur-trimmed suit”.

About the restaurants in Barcelona, Abend recommends Fonda Gaig, where she tasted the traditional cannelloni of St. Stephen’s Day or the emblematic Rías de Galicia. Not to be forgotten is the Escrivá bakery, where the traditional Christmas sweets can be acquired, such as nougat, the twisted roll of Kings’ Day or the neules.

If you want to enjoy all that related in The New York Times and many more surprises that Barcelona has to offer, we have 21 hotels in this city for you to stay at: from the central Catalonia Catedral, Catalonia Ramblas and Catalonia Port to the quietest and charming Catalonia Castellnou or Catalonia Rigoletto.
