Ibiza is an island located in the Mediterranean Sea and is one of the islands that make up the Balearic Islands along with Mallorca, Menorca and Formentera. It is a true tourist paradise and has become one of the most popular holiday destinations in the world.

Among its many attractions are its natural charms, in the form of wild coves with crystal-clear water and white sand. But it also stands out for its leisure and nightlife. Ibiza is home to some of the best nightclubs in the world and the quality of its restaurants is almost as good.

It is a very particular island, and, as the locals say, there are many different Ibizas. On the one hand, there is the party-loving Ibiza, the one that never sleeps and where it is possible to spend 24 hours partying in some of the best clubs and discotheques in Europe. And on the other, the more bohemian and naturalistic Ibiza, with paradisiacal coves, craft markets and dreamy sunsets. No matter which option best suits your style or interests, we assure you that once there, you will create your own Ibiza, while building an unforgettable holiday experience.

Ibiza is one of those destinations that visitors fall in love with, leaving them with a desire to return.

Ibiza has many charms to offer. To make the most of your stay, we’ll tell you which are the must-see highlights you simply can’t miss.

Table of Contents

Cala Xarraca

We begin our list of recommendations with a small cove that is perfect for snorkelling lovers. The reason for the rich marine life that surrounds its rocks is its location, away from the bays most frequented by boats.

It is located next to the municipality of Sant Joan de Labritja and is made up of three different areas.

The most beautiful thing about this cove, apart of course from its marvellous turquoise waters whose high level of transparency allows you to make out the seabed to perfection, are its surroundings, full of vegetation and with several rock cliffs at both ends.

In the area to the left, the sand is a little more clayey and bathers usually take advantage of the opportunity to cover their bodies with these healing muds that are so beneficial for the skin.

Its wild nature deprives it of the services you would expect from a tourist beach. However, it does have a restaurant, the Xarraca Restaurant, where you can enjoy one of the best fish stews on the island.

Punta Galera Viewpoint

Among all the things to do in Ibiza, watching the sunset at the Punta Galera Viewpoint is almost a must.

Surrounded by lush pine forests and accompanied by the sound of the many local birds as a privileged soundtrack, this amazing balcony overlooking the sea gives you the feeling of floating above the calm waters of the Mediterranean.

Ibiza is one of the best destinations in the world to enjoy a beautiful sunset and if we had to choose a specific place to do so, it would undoubtedly be the Punta Galera Viewpoint.

The colours that the sunset paints in the sky and how they are reflected in the sea make up a postcard that you will never forget.

There are no bars or beach bars around, which means that it retains that natural and wild character that is so attractive. So if you want to have a drink while you enjoy the spectacle, you’ll have to take it with you.

Cala D’Hort and the Islet of Es Vedrà

Just ten minutes by car from the town of San José, Cala d’Hort is a beach that combines fine sand at one end and rock at the other. Its emerald-coloured shores enjoy the best view of the islet of Es Vedra on the entire island.

This famous islet is the subject of many legends and is surrounded by a very special aura of mystery. It is said that UFOs have been seen taking off from its rocks and that boats lose their GPS signal when they approach it.

Although we don’t usually believe in such stories, the unquestionable fact is that observing its silhouette from the beach, with the Mediterranean as a backdrop, is truly marvelous.

If you are travelling to Ibiza in the high season, we recommend that you get up early to visit Cala D’Hort and make sure you park near the beach.

During the summer months you will also find a small clothes shop there, and nearby you can choose from three different restaurants to enjoy Ibizan cuisine. Our favourite is Es Boldadó, located on the cliffs and with fantastic views of the bay.

Can Marçà Cave

Cova Marçà is undoubtedly one of the best places to see in Ibiza and, at the same time, one of the most surprising and curious.

Inside this massive rocky cavity that is more than 100,000 years old, a 40-minute tour awaits you, full of stalagmites, stalactites, underground lagoons and even waterfalls of coloured lights.

We can assure you that it will be one of the most fascinating and unique experiences of your life, similar to visiting another planet. A super fun tour and a different plan for the whole family, ideal if you are travelling with children.

But this cave has not always been a tourist attraction. For years, smugglers used it to hide their goods there and even today, there are traces of red and black paint inside the cave, from the marks they made on the walls to quickly locate the exit in case they were caught.

This natural wonder is located in the north of the island, right on the cliffs that separate the beach of Benirrás and the beach of Port de San Miquel.

Cala Comte

If we tell you that Cala Comte is one of the most frequented by locals, you can deduce that it is one of the top choices among Ibiza’s wide range of beaches.

A picture of thousands of postcards, its most characteristic panoramic view always features the imposing presence of the Illa des Bosc floating on the horizon.

It is a beautiful place, but there is only one drawback, and that is that, especially during the high season months, it tends to be quite crowded. Therefore, if you want to visit it in summer, we advise you to come as early as possible, so that you can find parking and a good spot on the sand.

The Ashram restaurant is one of the best places to enjoy the sunset in Ibiza, with a good cocktail in hand and this wonderful natural environment as a luxury companion.

The nearest municipality is San Antonio and Cala Comte is only a fifteen minute drive from there.

Torre des Savinar

The Torre des Savinar is one of the most highly recommended viewpoints to visit in Ibiza.

Popularly known as the Torre des Cap des Jueu or the Pirate’s Tower, this ancient watchtower offers one of the best panoramic views of the entire island.

There, practically every day of the year, visitors and locals gather to enjoy its marvelous sunsets.

In addition, it is possible to take a glass-bottom sailboat trip around the bay and marvel at the active marine life in the surrounding area. The sunsets from this perspective are also amazing, as you watch the sun go down at the same height as you, at the water’s level.

You already know that Ibiza is synonymous with dreamy sunsets. Well, the Torre des Savinar is undoubtedly one of the best viewpoints from which to enjoy them.

Atlantis

This stop escapes the classic recommendations that you won’t find in conventional tourist guides. The reason? In addition to not being a well-known place, even among some locals, it requires a walk of almost three hours to reach it. But it’s well worth the walk.

Atlantis is an area defined by its fascinating rock formations and stunning natural pools, all surrounded by a dramatic amphitheatre of cliffs.

It is said to have served as a home for the hippie communes that during the 1960s and 1970s populated the island in an effort to find some peace and quiet and connect with nature.

The fact that you have to walk for so long to find it has its advantages. Most days you will be able to enjoy it practically on your own.

To find this secret cove, you must go to the Torre des Savinar, skirt it on the left and go down the narrow path that opens up at the edge of the cliff.

Remember to wear suitable footwear for trekking, a good amount of water, sun cream and a cap to protect you from the sun’s rays during the walk.

Dalt Vila

Ibiza is not only natural wonders and Dalt Vila, the upper part of the city of Ibiza and its historic quarter, are the best example of this.

Dalt Vila is a beautiful network of white houses and labyrinthine streets surrounded by a wall that separates it from the rest of the city.

Our recommendation so that you don’t miss any of its places of interest is to take a free tour in which you will also have the opportunity to learn some historical facts about the area and get various recommendations for your trip.

And if you still want to find out more about the history of the city, you can always visit the Archaeological Museum, located in one of its streets.

The must-see sights of Ibiza ‘s historic quarter are the Plaza de la Vila square, the Cathedral of the Virgen de las Nieves and the Mirador de la Muralla viewpoint.

During your stroll through its cobbled streets, you can take the opportunity to have an ice cream at the famous Vivi’s Creamery or enjoy a refreshing drink on one of its many terraces.

Cala Mastella

We are in Ibiza, so it is time to visit one of those coves that have little or nothing to envy to the famous paradisiacal beaches of the Caribbean.

Cala Mastella stands out as one of the island’s most unspoiled, wild, and peaceful coves on the island. Surrounded by lush pine forests, it offers the opportunity to enjoy a relaxing day and connection with nature in a privileged environment.

In its surroundings you will find small cliffs about 3 to 4 metres high from where the most intrepid travellers jump into the sea.

Close to its shores it is also possible to discover underwater caves that will delight diving enthusiasts. Although, to tell the truth, the whole area closest to the rocks stands out for the presence of a multitude of shoals of fish of different species.

In Cala Mastella you will find the famous restaurant ‘El Bigotes’, which has its own boat and is one of the best rated restaurants in Ibiza for eating fresh fish.

Ibiza Clubs

If there is one thing that has made the island of Ibiza famous, apart from its beaches and natural wonders, it is its unmatched nightlife.

In just over 570 square kilometres, you’ll find some of the best nightclubs in the world, making it a must-see destination for lovers of partying and electronic music.

As is usually the case, the parties in Ibiza’s nightclubs bring together the best DJs on the planet, who provide the soundtrack to magical nights that are hard to forget.

The most famous discotheques in Ibiza are: Ushuaia, Amnesia, Pachá, Bora Bora, Lío Ibiza, Space, Hi Ibiza, Ocean Beach, Es Paradis, Swag Ibiza and Edén, each one more spectacular than the last.

Can you think of a better plan for your holiday than a night of partying in a spectacular setting and a day of relaxation in a paradisiacal cove to recharge your batteries? We’ve already told you that Ibiza has something for everyone. And always of the highest quality.

Ses Salines Natural Park and Ses Salines Beach

This beautiful natural park stretches from the north of Formentera to the south of the island of Ibiza.

It is a protected natural area of 16,000 hectares, characterised by its wild beaches, the diversity of its fauna and flora and, especially, the incomparable life of its seabed. In fact, 13,000 of the park’s hectares correspond to the seabed, which highlights its enormous underwater wealth.

One of its greatest treasures is Ses Salines Beach, with impressive golden sand dunes and turquoise waters. Despite being located in an impressive natural environment, this beach is not exempt from several tourist services such as its famous beach bars, very popular with national and international celebrities during the summer months.

Sant Antoni

We end our list of recommendations with a rural tourism proposal that is perfect to visit when the sun goes down. The municipality of Sant Antoni, as well as being famous all over the world for its incredible nightlife, has some of the best restaurants on the island. If you decide to eat at Es Repost de Ca’n Prats, one of the most highly recommended in the area, don’t leave without trying its exquisite fritada de pulpo (fried octopus).

In its beach bars, including the famous Café del Mar, you can enjoy one of the best sunsets in Ibiza, and of course, if you feel like ending the day with a good night out, we can only tell you that you are in the right place.

Frequently Asked Questions Ibiza

To make the most of your time, the places you shouldn’t miss in Ibiza are its different coves in order to enjoy as much as possible. In addition to all the coves included in our list, we recommend that you don’t miss Dalt Vilà and that you experience at least one night out partying in Ibiza.

The best places to eat in Ibiza are the historic city centre, the port area and the town of Sant Antoni, the second most important town on the island and home to some of the best restaurants in Ibiza.

The best way to get to know Ibiza in depth is to spend a week’s holiday there. This may seem a little exaggerated, considering that we are talking about an island that is just over 500 kilometres long, which you can cross by car in just under an hour. If you think that’s too long, we can assure you it’s because you don’t know it yet.

The best means of transport for getting around Ibiza is by car or motorbike. If you wish, you have the option of renting a car directly on arrival at the airport and from there, you can move around independently, plan your own routes and itineraries and make the most of the time you spend there.

You can reach Ibiza by car by ferry, departing from the towns of Denia, Jávea and the surrounding area. But the easiest and quickest way to get there is by plane. Its international airport offers connections to many different cities and countries.
