The building is an old Neoclassical-style palace set in a prime location between Plaza Catalunya and the Gothic Quarter, just a few steps from Barcelona Cathedral. Explore the city from this urban hotel that offers modern rooms, including a large suite.

If you need to wind down, inside the hotel is a large garden patio with a pool, terrace and sun deck and a glassed-in pergola where the buffet breakfast is served each morning. Catalonia Portal de l’Àngel also features a gastrobar, free wifi and room service to make your stay all about comfort.

Choose one of the rooms with a balcony and views of the Portal de l'Àngel to not miss a second of what is happening on this famous pedestrian street, always full of life. If you prefer more privacy, our two-story suite located on the top floor of the hotel will give you maximum privacy along with an exclusive terrace and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the city.

Whichever room you choose, at the Catalonia Portal de l'Àngel hotel you will stay in what was a 19th-century mansion, classified as a building of historical-artistic interest. It was built in 1872 under the supervision of the master builder Pedro Bassegoda i Mateu. We have kept the neoclassical façade intact and, although it is an austere architectural style, you will be able to appreciate grafted romantic and baroque motifs on it.

Upon entering the hotel, you will be struck by its spacious entrance, which was designed wide enough to allow carriage access in the 19th century. Through it you can access the majestic interior patio of the building, which we have restored according to the original model, and where the spectacular marble staircase typical of stately homes of the time is located.

Leave the interior patio behind and you will arrive at our Gastrobar, an informal place where you can have lunch, dinner or a drink between meals, from a coffee to a cocktail. Continue the tour of the hotel and you will discover the Jardí de l'Àngel, an incredible interior garden of 600 m2, completely open and surrounded by huge wall paintings that make it a unique place.

This haven of peace in the middle of the city is divided into two main areas: on the one hand, the glass-enclosed and heated pergola where every morning you can enjoy a varied buffet breakfast with local products. On the other hand, the Jardí de l'Àngel completes its desire to be a space of calm and relaxation with the terrace area, finished in wood and with a solarium. Take a refreshing swim in the beautiful pool or rest at our designer tables under the umbrellas.

If you need to completely relax, your place is the Alegría Spa, which is located less than 500 meters away in another of our hotels, the Catalonia Ramblas hotel. In this wellness space you can enjoy a water area, sauna, Turkish bath and an extensive menu of massages and reflexology, beauty and phytotherapy treatments, among others.

The Catalonia Portal de l'Àngel hotel is in an enviable situation, at the entrance to the famous Barri Gòtic, where you can visit essential tourist sites such as the Barcelona Cathedral, the Palau de la Música Catalana, Las Ramblas, Plaça del Rei or the Lyceum. In the opposite direction of the march, towards the mountains, you will find Plaza Catalunya, the nerve center of the city, where Passeig de Gracia and Rambla Catalunya start.
