Hotels in Bilbao

There are two buildings that stand out in this magnificent city, the Guggenheim Museum of Bilbao and the Iberdrola Tower with its 165 meters high.

Although Bilbao is much more than the Guggenheim Museum, we cannot conceive of a visit to this city without enjoying this great work of architecture by the renowned architect Frank Gehry. Come and admire the exterior of the building with its curvilinear and twisted shapes. It's quite a spectacle! Inside you will discover works by some of the most important contemporary artists in the world. Don't forget to find out about the temporary exhibitions.

After the museum visit, get going! Bilbao is a city to walk and discover little by little. You can walk along the Nervión estuary towards the old town. Along the way you will discover the Zubizuri Bridge, the work of Santiago Calatrava, and the impressive facades of the City Hall and the Arriaga theater. In the old town, go to the Mercado de la Ribera, the largest covered market in Europe. Just behind you will discover the church and the San Antón bridge, two structures that appear on the coat of arms of the town and the Athletic Club of Bilbao, curious, right?

The old town, better known as seven streets (zazpi kaleak in Basque), is one of the busiest areas, with small pedestrian streets full of charm and life. A perfect option for a pintxos route. In this area it is easy to find groups that go around the bars drinking a wine in the typical glass, the “txikito”. Thus, between pintxos and txikitos you can explore the old town and let yourself be carried away by one of the areas with the most history and charm. Don't leave without visiting the Bilbao Cathedral.

Are you coming as a family? Brilliant! Bilbao is a city that offers you multiple options so that everyone can enjoy it to the fullest. Visit it by sailing along the estuary, discover the Doña Casilda park in front of the Catalonia Gran Vía Bilbao hotel, organize a bike tour or go up to Mount Artxanda by funicular. You will have a great time at the Maritime Museum or the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum. If you like football, don't miss a visit to the San Mamés stadium! You can take a tour, visit the museum or, if you are lucky and there is a game, go cheer on “the lions”. Quite an experience!

And if you like music or entertainment, don't forget to check out the Euskalduna Palace's programming because, in addition to being the city's Congress Palace, it usually offers plays, classical music concerts, opera and much more.

Whatever the case, let yourself be seduced by Bilbao by staying at the Catalonia Gran Vía Bilbao located in the city center. An ideal location to visit the most touristic places. We recommend you get to know the city on foot, by bike, by bus or by boat. If you travel by car, leave it in the hotel parking lot and start your visit now.
