Hotels in Berlin

After the wall came down in 1989, Berlin became a vibrant and creative city full of life, where the grandeur of its monuments combines with cutting-edge art, music and fashion. It's nearly impossible to summarise its charms, but we have put together this small selection of some of the principal places you can visit from our hotel in Berlin, located in the Mitte area:

The Wall, of which only commemorative pieces remain, is one of the first places to see after you have settled into the Catalonia Berlin Mitte hotel, in the heart of the city in the Mitte area. A symbol of the way the population was divided for nearly three decades, 1.3 km of this impressive structure still stands in the area known as East Side Gallery. Checkpoint Charlie was the most important border crossing along the Wall.
Just over a kilometre from Checkpoint Charlie you’ll come to the Brandenburg Gate, a stunning neoclassical monument with clear nods to classical Greece. The Gate has become a universal city reference over the two hundred-plus years since it was built.

A relaxed 20 minute walk will bring you to theNeue Museum, an impressive place rebuilt following its partial destruction during World War II. Located, like our hotel in Berlin, just a few hundred metres from the banks of the meandering Spree, it is home to wonderful jewels of Egyptian art, such as the famous Nefertiti bust.

Finally, don't leave town without visiting Alexanderplatz, a regular meeting place for Berliners, packed with restaurants and amazing beer halls of all types.

Food-wise, you must try the city's favourite dish, currywurst, a sausage with ketchup and curry that has become so famous it even has its own museum, less than two kilometres from our hotel in Berlin. It might not be a benchmark place to eat, but it's certainly unusual.
Berlin is the perfect place to enjoy a memorable time in one of the hotels in Berlin with a singular design.

    Berlin Mitte

Also known simply as Mitte, it's the main district in Berlin where the historical old town is found. It is home to the Catalonia Berlin Mitte hotel and many famous landmarks including the Brandenburg Gate and the Reichstag building.

    Brandenburg Gate

Today's Brandenburg Gate is a symbol of the vibrant city of Berlin. It is a majestic monument that forms part of the historical legacy built between 1788 and 1791 by the heir to the Kingdom of Prussia, Frederick William II, representing the triumph of peace over war.

    Alexanderplatz

Today it is a shopping centre and home to the TV Tower, one of the tallest buildings in Europe. We recommend taking the lift to the top to see Berlin from above. When you come down, have fun jumping on the round trampolines embedded in Alexanderplatz.
